It can create lot of illusions. Most of us don’t experience the world as it is, but rather through our minds. The world can be beautiful or ugly. It all depends on how our minds are focusing.
Also we have not one mind, but many minds. The mind of a father in us is different from the mind of a son, husband or businessman in us. We have different “I’s”. So too we have different types of minds.
Understanding how mind operates gives us a better leverage of how to handle the mind. Transform the mind: The next step is changing from negative words to positive words, from negative pictures to positive pictures. Mind is a series of thoughts, thoughts are words and pictures.
They emanate from our values. If we have a negative value, we get a negative thought or picture; or if you have a positive value you get a positive thought or picture. So transforming our values is in essence transforming the mind. Lastly, one has to transcend the mind: Between two thoughts there exists silence.
Learn to see the gaps between thoughts, see the silence between thoughts. The observer of silence is nothing but silence. Then one learns to enjoy silence. Do-ables: Sit on the bed, before sleeping, with a deep awareness of your body, with a deep sense of gratitude of the miracle of the body.
Breathe deeply three times as though you are inhaling God’s blessings. Exhale all your tensions. Visualise that a great secret is hidden in a stressful incident.
Relive your tense mind and see it as a great lesson existence is teaching you. Now re-live this tense moment as though you are a Buddha... an enlightenment being. Visualize how you are not affected by that tension. You are seeing it like a play and you are as calm as a Buddha. You are just a witness. Then lie down and let sleep dawn on you.
